On Thursday 11 of May, early in the morning, workers from dozens of trade unions of the Private and Public sector that are rallied in the All-workers’ Militant Front (PAME) carried out a symbolic blockade of the Finance Ministry, which is located in a square in the centre of Athens opposite Parliament. The workers gathered and blocked the entrances to the ministry, holding the flags of PAME.

In this period, hundreds of meetings of workers are being held in workplaces, as well as meetings of trade union general assemblies and executive committees, which are engaged with the success of the general strike that has been called for the 17^th of May. With the symbolic blockade of the Ministry of Finance, the trade unions that are rallied in PAME utilize this as another way to propagandize the general strike. They hung an enormous banner over the front of the Finance Minister in Syntagma sq. which bore the slogan: “People, Forwards! Rise up against the new looting and games being carried out by the government-capital-EU-Everyone must take part in the general strike on the 17^th of May.”  

 As is well-known on 17 and 18 May, the anti-people “left” government of SYRIZA-ANEL is bringing a new raft of measures to be voted on in Parliament.

In its statement, PAME notes that these measures of the government are thrusting new burdens on the backs of the workers’-people’s families, while at the same time giving new privileges to the business groups. PAME calls on the workers, the unemployed, the self-employed, the youth in order to put a brake on the constant impoverishment of their lives, not to compromise with the new agreement that plunders the people, to fight for the recovery of their losses, to struggle for new demands on the basis of their contemporary needs.
